AMERICAN DESIGNER challenges us to “Believe in Love”
When your dreams come true, it’s time to realize the dreams of others
– Neima Sitawi
Bologna, Italy, June 4, 2017
US native and Geneva resident, Neima Sitawi had always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. Inspired by her supportive parents and her Montessori education, she dedicated herself to learning all there is to know about the world of art and the impact it makes on our world culture. In fact, her quest for cultural and creative development led her to spend the past decade studying,
working and living abroad, on three continents.
After studying political science at the University of Cincinnati she went off to Luxembourg to obtain an MBA in strategic marketing. After many years working for multi-national corporations, however Neima decided to realize her ultimate dream. In 2010 she returned to her true passion for art and design, launching her own fashion label in Bologna, Italy by her namesake, NEIMASITAWI.
Recently, as a result of the current turbulence in global affairs and the growing uncertainty in the world, Neima was driven to help bring the dreams of others to fruition. With that in mind, she launched The NEIMASITAWI Refugee Atelier Project. This project is an initiative out of her current home town of Geneva, Switzerland, aimed at supporting refugee women to develop business, technical and language skills as they settle into their new lives. The “Atelier” will provide displaced women a safe, resource and training centre as well as a pathway to self sustainability.
Whether it be opening their own business or fnding fulflling labor in the sartorial trades, she hopes to arm talented women with the confidence and contemporary skills to make a living in Europe. In order to raise money for the initial stages of the project, NEIMASITAWI has teamed up with American artist and owner of Mia Luna Designs, Maria Moscato to create the “Believe in Love” t-shirt. Proceeds from the sales of this t-shirt will be donated to Mondo Donna, a Bologna-based not for profit organization exclusively dedicated to empowering refugees and displaced women. In addition NEIMASITAWI is finalizing plans to launch an eventual street wear line designed with
the same timeless aesthetic and produced via the NEIMASITAWI Refugee Atelier Project team embedded within the Mondo Donna platform. An ambition to offer a lucrative collaboration contract to ensure work for new and existing refugee women in Bologna and elsewhere. Mondo Donna Onlus, Bologna, Italy is an association initiated by both Italian and foreign women. Among their many objectives are hospitality services for women immigrants. Social Chic is one of their work placement opportunities providing women with training and paid work in the sartorial trade. They have collaborations with donations from high end brands like Max Mara and we’re happy to announce NEIMASITAWI to the list.
